Mark Anderson, President of Strategy and Business Development at Pearson International has agreed to speak at SPS Strategy Club events on the subject of strategic leadership. He is an SPS member and author of The Leadership Book (see SPS newsletter January 2011). “I am delighted to be supporting and contributing to the SPS Strategy Clubs initiative,” says Anderson. “This is an initiative which will provide an excellent series of forums to broaden and deepen strategy discussions across academic and business communities.”
He argues that, “effective leadership lies not in grand gestures but in relentless engagement with people and that effective leadership is both in the strategy and in the detail.”
“In an increasingly volatile business environment there has never been a greater need for leaders who are able to marshal excellent performance, where leadership is not an end in itself but focuses on the optimisation of an organisation’s major differentiation – their human capital,” he says.
Students and businesspeople who attend his talk will no doubt be interested in his view that, “perhaps one of the greatest challenges faced by a leader of any team is the necessity to confront a paradox – planned uncertainty”.
