An exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic Head of Strategy to join one of Europe’s largest multidisciplinary research organisations – the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
STFC funds research in particle and nuclear physics, astronomy and space science, manages UK membership of international science organisations including the European particle physics laboratory CERN and the European Southern Observatory (ESO), and operates large research facilities in Oxfordshire, Cheshire, Scotland and Hampshire with a significant focus on new R&D in cutting edge technologies and engineering. Our research portfolio is broad, far-reaching and has a substantial focus on helping drive economic growth across the UK – and each year helps inspire thousands of younger people to continue or further studies in STEM areas.
Reporting to the Executive Director Strategy, Performance and Communications, you will work closely with the senior management team, other Research Councils and science bodies, external stakeholders and international partners to ensure STFC’s Corporate Strategy (http://www.stfc.ac.uk/resources/pdf/STFCCS2010.pdf) is regularly refreshed and is fully embedded across our Delivery, Operating and departmental plans. You will also play a key role in helping demonstrate the direct and indirect economic, societal and international benefits flowing to the UK from past and current investments in research.
The successful applicant will have proven experience in developing and implementing strategy, preferably in an international and research context, engaging with stakeholders, and assessing and reporting economic return on investment. If you’ve a passion for excellence, a sense of curiosity and want to work at the absolute cutting edge of knowledge, this position is for you.
(IRC65006). Full-time fixed term. £54,565 – £60,627 dependent on skills and experience. Based at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory or Polaris House, Swindon
