SPS Fellow Peadar Duffy is founder and chairman of RMI, a risk management company with experience and capability in strategic, operational and hazard risk management. He is leading the creation of SPS Ireland.
Why did you decide to set up SPS Ireland?
In Ireland there has been a dearth of strategic thinking, and a lot of mistakes have been made. It is a good time to create a platform for professionals capable of good quality strategic analysis and thinking to convene.
I reached out to the SPS in London and discovered that they were looking to establish a structure for rolling out SPS branches internationally, so we were pleased to be part of the first wave, along with Turkey and Brazil.
What will it offer practitioners in Ireland?
Most practitioners are so overwhelmed with the challenges they face that they don’t have time for theory and academia. What they need is practical support at a practitioner level, and that’s what we will hope to offer. We will have events and informal meetings for people to network and learn from other practitioners: that is one of the biggest benefits of membership.
How can people get involved?
There is a LinkedIn group for SPS Ireland, which has already seen a great deal of interest. On 6 July we are also holding a launch event at St Stephen’s Green in Dublin, where we will discuss high-level parameters from the SPS and begin planning events and initiatives to meet the needs of people in the Irish region. Anyone wishing to attend should email me at Peadar.Duffy@riskforce.com.
