Business schools update and events
The first SPS Strategy Club event at St Andrews business school on 16 November was deemed a success. Students heard a presentation by Kim Warren, creator of the Strategy Dynamics Approach, and Richard Stephenson, a highly experienced strategy practitioner.
A similar talk from Warren and Stephenson will be delivered at Huddersfield Business School on 5 December. Events are also being planned at other business schools, including Cranfield Business School in January, Kingston Business School in March, and an event at Said Business School, Oxford, on a date to be confirmed.

Strategy Summits: New York, San Francisco, London and Hong Kong
SPS is pleased to announce that we have agreed a partnership with IE Group for their Strategy Summit taking place in New York on 8 December. This and other events by IE Group are for Heads of Strategy and C-Level Executives. Other events, including a London Summit, are planned for 2012.

System Dynamics Society Meeting, 9-10 February 2012, London
System Dynamics is a powerful technique for understanding how an organisation’s performance changes over time, so SPS members will value the insights into business strategy at the February 2012 meeting of the System Dynamics Society’s UK branch.
The meeting, at London South Bank University, near Elephant & Castle, will take place on in the afternoon of 9 February and 10 February. Passes are available for the 9 February sessions only, the following day being devoted to more technical issues.

New SPS Trustee – Colin Tuckwell
Learning and change are two themes that run through the career of new SPS Trustee, Colin Tuckwell. He first joined SPS in the early 1980s and is encouraged by the new support from among top business professionals. “The snowball is rolling,” he says. “SPS Executive Officer Paul Barnett is doing a great job pushing us forward.” >>

SPS AGM and future initiatives
The SPS annual general meeting (AGM) and an executive meeting of SPS Trustees concluded that there has been significant progress, including enthusiastic support for the business schools initiative and increasing membership revenue.
However, there remains much still to do before our vision – to be the leading professional body for strategy and strategists – becomes a reality.

Developing Strategy as a Profession: A Working Conference
In line with its mission to elevate strategy towards the status of established and recognised professional discipline, SPS will run a working conference on 13 March 2012 for those interested in the future of strategy as a professional discipline. The event will be hosted by SPS in association with Said Business School, Oxford. Attendance will be by invitation only.

Strategy Magazine special issue
SPS is currently working on a special issue of Strategy Magazine, Developing Strategy as a Profession. We expect this to be available in advance of the working conference so the articles can provide a context and rationale for SPS’s mission and vision. The key initiatives in SPS’s strategic framework will also be introduced.
Of course, the special issue will be as informative as ever, and will hopefully stimulate comments and opinions from readers in the SPS LinkedIn group.
