Drivers of change

During this time of unprecedented change and confusion it is essential to discover the real fundamentals that drive lasting change and how they might affect the development of today's business strategies. In the latest issue of Strategy Magazine, John Miles, global leader for Arup in the fields of energy, resources and industry, discusses the effect of the current external environment in his feature on the drivers of change. He argues that the interdependence resulting from the introduction of lean systems has had a negative effect on the resilience of these structures to respond to change.

Strategic clarity

What managers see, what they advocate and what they ultimately decide are influenced by the map of the world they carry around inside their heads. In volume 41, number 5 of Long Range Planning, authors James L Ritchie-Dunham and Luz Maria Puente refer to over a decade of field research and a wealth of case examples to show how to identify and correct managers' mental models to move their organisations in the desired direction and achieve their goals.

  • SPS members receive Long Range Planning six times a year (worth GBP120 pa).

From crisis to collaboration?

The financial crisis, the economic crisis and now the climate crisis: the news appears to be getting worse. But could that also be the trigger for a change of attitude; a genuine recognition that we are in it together, that if we are to avoid the worst, then acting together is key. That too may be happening.

  • SPS members enjoy free access to Shaping Tomorrow (worth GBP95 pa) – an organised database of over 25,000 future, strategy and change management resources, plus a weekly newsletter highlighting ten new trends.
